VA Expanded Home Loan Benefit Eligibility for National Guard Service

NewRez LLC "NewRez" Approved Correspondent Clients: please note, the VA has announced the expansion of eligibility guidelines for certain National Guard members to qualify for the VA Home Loan Benefit.

National Guard Members, under the expanded guidelines, who performed full-time active service duty under certain sections of U.S.C. Title 32, for not less than 90 cumulative days, of which at least 30 of those days must have been consecutive, will be immediately eligible for VA Home Loan Benefits. National Guard members who have served under Title 32 Sections, 316, 502, 503, 504 or 505 authority, to support the COVID-19 response or other federal government support missions for Homeland Security or FEMA would qualify.  

 

NewRez clients are encouraged to inform National Guard members of their expanded eligibility and to apply for VA Certificates of Eligibility (COE). See VA Circular 26-21-08 for details on documentation requirements to evidence eligibility. This Circular applies to COE applications received by VA on or after January 5, 2021. Applicants who may have been previously denied VA home loan benefits and now meet the requirements for eligibility are encouraged to reapply.
